I am a relationship specialist, and I view your relationship as my client.
I love working with couples who are committed to staying together but feel they have lost a grip on their emotional connection, either due to stressor pileup (i.e. jobs, kids, and other “adulting” responsibilities), or due to emotional residue from early childhood trauma negatively affecting aspects of their partnership.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 15 years in the field, I am experienced in working with many different kinds of relationship systems and issues.
I have expertise in working with couples who are the parents of children with autism or other developmental disabilities. I also enjoy working with couples in "medical marriages" (where one or both partners work in the medical field).
My other interests
I'm a mindful folk-pop singer-songwriter (famous only in my dreams), and I have a “Monday Mindfulness Minute” blog on my music website at https://katyoberle.com/mindfulness-blog that you're welcome to check out! In addition, I love hanging out with my hubby of 14 years, my two amazing daughters, ages 7 and 10, and our two Siamese cats.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
EFT is based on attachment science and also draws influence from humanistic and systemic theories. It was developed in the 1980's by Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg. It is recognized by the American Psychological Association as a gold-standard evidenced-based model of couples therapy.
Check out Dr. Sue Johnson's informational video to the right, as well as information from the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (https://iceeft.com/).
As an Independently licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am considered an out-of-network provider with most insurances. This means you pay for sessions at the time of services and I do not personally bill your insurance company, but give you a monthly statement (Superbill) giving you the choice to use your insurance. This does not guarantee reimbursement; you are responsible for contacting your insurance company to check out-of-network benefits.
Your first step is getting a free consult. My practice is driven by relationships, which is why the relationship between you and me is very important. I offer a free 15 to 25-minute video call to make sure we work well together.
Once we make the connection and if we both agree I would be a good fit, you will have access to schedule your first full appointment. If I am taking video calls, I have availability to schedule! I never schedule more then I have room for.
